Your Dreams Aren't Stupid + Other Things You Should Tell Yourself
Step 1: Tell yourself you are doing just fine, because you are. Step 2: Stopping being mean to yourself and putting you down.
You know who your worst critic is? You. We are so hard on ourselves and it shouldn’t be that way. As a kid, we can touch the stars, anything seems possible. But when we grow up, all of that changes. We doubt ourselves, we stove up and pack our dreams up in little boxes to never open again. We kill ourselves before we die. And it’s time that stops.
1. Your dreams aren’t stupid.
Listen up brain, you’re reign of terror is over! My dreams and your dreams hold value and should be pursued with purpose and passion. No more dream killing allowed. Lend yourself some grace and dream on.
2. You don’t have to wear fancy clothes to be beautiful.
“She is clothed with strength and dignity, and she laughs without fear of the future.” Proverbs 31:25. Women are so often lead to believe that our outwards appearance defines who we are on the inside. False. Sure, we can all have our personal style, but don’t let how you dress affect how you act. Your inner qualities are much more important than your outer appearance.
3. This ___________ isn’t crazy.
Fill in the blank: idea, plan, goal, etc. Whatever it is, it’s not crazy. If you truly feel the pull, it’s worth pursuing. Don’t let small minds convince you that your ________ are too big. You know yourself best. Give yourself the chance to do something great.
4. You aren’t a failure for not having ___________ yet.
Go to college. Graduate. Get a house by 25. Have a solid career by 30. Two kids before 35. Retire at 65. When did this become the “right” way to live? That may work for some, but it will not for everyone. There is no one size fits all life plan. Do you. Break the mold.
5. It’s never too late to start over.
The best part of being alive: it’s never too late to start over. Don’t like your job? Find a new one. Don’t like your friends anymore? Get new ones. Want to move? You can do it! Anything at any moment is possible. That is the magic of life. Don’t hold yourself back because you think you can’t start again, you can.
6. Do something you love everyday.
Hobbies are severely underrated. If you love doing something, make time for it every single day. Be intentional with it. Let yourself take a break and enjoy life. Hitting pause and taking time for yourself is essential for overall health and quality of life.
7. Do it now.
Everyone dreams of a wild trip for themselves. One they can let loose and live free. If you’ve been procrastinating, this is your reminder. Life will keep on spinning if you drop out of the rat race for a while. It’s okay to take time for yourself, in fact, it’s necessary. You owe it to yourself to put you first. So take that trip. End that crap relationship. Quit your job. Whatever you are putting off for whatever reason, do it now.
Society pushes us to never rest, never stop working towards the top. I am here to let you know it’s okay to take a break. It’s alright to slow down. Be kind to yourself. Don’t punish yourself for not having what you thought you should by now. Look around at what you do have and be grateful.
It’s okay to hit pause on the negative committee in your head. You have that power. See life through a different lense for a while. Speak confidence back into your spirit and watch you bloom. It’s time to love yourself again.
